FAMILY THERAPY

Sometimes, despite best intentions, just a simple miscommunication can prevent a nurturing family or family member from flourishing. Sometimes the difficulty is more in-grained into the way the family functions. In either situation the family can benefit from a little help. At Embley House Counselling we find it more effective to consider the family from a holistic perspective, rather than to just look at the individual in isolation. The emphasis here is on what goes on between family members and then we follow with the pathway to restore the nurturing family environment.

We ensure that the family is not left to go through the process alone by providing as much support as is needed. We give the parents skills to enable them to be part of the solution and to empower them.

One of the modalities we use in Family Therapy is RELATIONSHIP ENHANCEMENT®

RELATIONSHIP ENHANCEMENT® For Adolescents & Parents

Families with adolescents often find this a very challenging time. Embley House offers support to these families using skills from the Relationship Enhancement® Family Therapy Model.

The Relationship Enhancement® (RE) Model can help families to resolve current relationship problems while developing communication, conflict resolution, and relationship skills to prevent the development of future problems.

The Relationship Enhancement® (RE) Model empowers families to resolve current and future problems on their own. RE accomplishes its goals by teaching a set of practical skills that enables families to uncover and communicate their deepest feelings, concerns and desires, and to create solutions to problems at their deepest levels. The ten RE skills taught are: Empathic, Expressive, Discussion/Negotiation, Problem/Conflict Resolution, Facilitation, Conflict Management, Self-Change, Helping-Others Change, Generalisation and Maintenance.

The Relationship Enhancement® Model was originally developed by Bernard Guerney, Jr., Ph.D., (Director of Couples/Family Therapy Training at NIRE and internationally recognised researcher and clinician).
